Media Academy Iraq (MAI) just completed a high-level three-day workshop in Karbala on the topic of feature writing. Independent and established journalists attended the workshop, which touched on key elements of feature writing, including:

  • Writing leads
  • Circular endings
  • Background information
  • Assessing strength of sources
  • Use of quotes
  • Link paragraphs and planning

The objective was to raise the standard of feature writing of participating journalists. Many participants had had very little experience of feature writing, with most of their past journalism output having focused on hard news.

In the sidebar are a few photos from the workshop.
